OTHER NEWS & STUFF.......................

Camine to be in epic Exodus film

Programmed for Channel 4 and Cinema release!

Zinta & Ramona are due to make a debut film performance playing The Fabulous Veronica’s in the drama feature film Exodus. It is due to be transmitted in two parts on Channel 4 in 2007 with a UK cinema release at the same time.

Exodus is a an epic film inspired by the Old Testament Book of Exodus, which re-tells the story of Moses and his search for the promised land. It is story about identity and migration set in present day Margate. It is written and directed by the award winning filmmaker Penny Woolcock (known for feature films The Death of Klinghoffer, Mischief Night and the drama Tina Goes Shopping).

The twins will be playing a mysterious twin role Veronica. The Veronica’s will sing in the film…many scenes will be shot in a radically transformed ‘Dreamland funfair’…

Ramona and Zinta will also be presenting their arrangement of an original Laurie Anderson song in a spectacular concert at the Winter Gardens, Margate. The concert is a part of EXODUS DAY, Saturday 30 September, when Margate will become a hub of dramatic and musical activity throughout the day with processions, pyrotechnics and live shots being captured for the film involving a cast of thousands!

At 6pm, over in the former Dreamland funfair, a massive-scale, 25-metre, sacrificial sculpture will be set alight to become a giant human torch against a darkening twilight sky. This figure, ‘Waste Man’ is a dramatic creation built from the unwanted junk of consumer society designed by Antony Gormley (creator of The Angel Of The North) and constructed by local Margate hands…

At 9pm the huge, free concert at The Winter Gardens, Margate, will commence. It features local singers and musicians performing their own versions of songs written exclusively for Exodus by Brian Eno & Robert Wyatt, Laurie Anderson, Cody ChesnuTT, The Tiger Lillies, Imogen Heap, Scott Walker, Rufus Wainwright, King Creosote, Stephin Merritt / The Magnetic Fields, and Klashnekoff who have each created a song inspired by one of the ten biblical plagues — Blood, Frogs, Lice, Flies, Death of Livestock, Boils, Hailstones, Locusts, Darkness and Death of the Firstborn. It is rumoured that some of these songwriters may be spotted in the audience! The performers have had the exciting opportunity to rehearse with international musician and composer David Coulter and renowned voice coach Mary King. Sadly the tickets have been going very fast but there will be an audio-link in the surrounding Winter Gardens.

For more information take a look at www.themargateexodus.org.uk

Camine were filmed rehearsing their Plague Song, on set, by BBC News at 10, so you may see a snippet of them on national telly on September 29th.

Andy takes a break..........

Due to on going health problems - Andy now has RSI in both his arms, he has decided, sadly and reluctantly, to leave Camine. Andy has played music with Ramona and Zinta for the last sixteen years, but needs to take a long rest. He is embarking on the Alexander Technique to hopefully sort his arms out and will be back playing in the future. Thanks to everyone for many happy times. Ramona and Zinta has some exciting projects coming up with other musicians and possible Camine members, as well as lots of duo work

Camine New Zealand tour Feb / March 06.

Ramona and Zinta will be touring New Zealand for the next six weeks. (so no Kent gigs – sorry)
Ramona will fly out on the 23rd of Jan 06 to join Zinta (who’s already there). Starting at the Auckland folk festival, they then embark on a merry jaunt for the next six weeks around the beautiful South Island. On their return in mid March there is a rush of St. Patrick’s gigs, then off to Finland with Andy for a return tour following the success of last years. We will keep you posted.

Posted Feb. 25th

As we prepare for freezing weather, here is an email up-date of how Ramona and Zinta are getting on with their summer tour of New Zealand (that’s summer in New Zealand of course!!).

Ramona writes:

Well, in addition to playing some great gigs, we’ve been having lots of adventures: riding Harley Davidson, climbing glaciers, walking through tropical rainforest, skydiving, and yesterday whale watching! Went out on a boat and saw three sperm whales over 18m long from a distance of about 50m. We also saw giant albatross and watched fur seals yawning and playing. Dusky dolphins playfully swimming around and racing the boat!

The limited edition live EP out earlier this year in time for our summer outings has been selling very well indeed - which is jolly nice - and having some very nice things said about it. The long awaited Camine studio album is now in the final stages (seriously) - having taken a wee while in the making we can finally see the flag. A final release date has not been fixed yet, but we will keep you posted.

For all you tunesmiths, Andy has a book out, a collection of favourite traditional tunes collected over the twenty five years or so he has been playing traditional music. The book is called ‘The well that never ran dry’ and is available through this website - check out the merchandise page.
