Camine
are twin sisters Zinta and Ramona Egle. Zinta playing
guitar and vocals, Ramona playing whistles / low whistles, fiddle,
harp and vocals. Andy Renshaw on percussion - bodhran, darabuk
and djembe).
The music Camine play is firmly rooted in the traditional music
of the Celtic nations, songs and tunes from Ireland and Scotland
with the occasional foray into European musical traditions. From
high-energy jigs and reels to sublime songs, with style and flare,
Camine play music both ancient and modern set very much in the contemporary
arena.
Zinta
and Ramona, now living in Kent, were born and raised in East Yorkshire.
Being twins, they found themselves singing together from a very
early age. It is their singing that, perhaps above all, marks them
apart as unique, mixing imagination with a vocal maturity that belies
their years. Harmony arrangements, their intuitive dynamics and
an outstanding natural talent for phrasing word and melody, be it
contemporary or traditional, is what makes Ramona and Zinta's singing
a rare gift. Elements of their family roots interweaving effortlessly
through the material, roots from Eastern Europe and Ireland. As
if that wasn't enough! Between them Ramona and Zinta have mastered
a wide array of instruments, including outstanding whistle, guitar,
fiddle and Harp playing. The trio is completed by Andy. Hailing
from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Andy plays a variety of percussion
and is Mr. Powerhouse on the bodhran.
With
concerts throughout the UK and Europe, Camine have built a loyal
following and a reputation for live performances that are spell
binding. It is in live performance where Camine come into their
own - with a close-knit attunement, both musical and personal, that
lends their music a spontaneity, depth and range that is uniquely
their own - rich and rewarding. All this is aided by good humour
and charm, mastery and mischief. Camine take acoustic music to a
new level.
Ramona
and Zinta first emerged on the British acoustic scene as front women
for the highly innovative and respected roots group Jacobs Ladder,
blending Zinta and Ramona's self penned songs with influences from
jazz, pop, European folk traditions and contemporary acoustic music.
Jacobs Ladder released the much-acclaimed album 'Kite' receiving
radio play as far a field as Europe and Japan plus television in
the UK. Regular guests with Camine are Tim Edey of Lunasa on melodeon
and Chris Taylor on melodeon and bouzouki.
